Community Outreach & Giving Committee: Did You Know?
Toronto CREW proudly supports Interpreter Services Toronto (IST).
Interpreter Services Toronto (IST) provides the longest-standing interpreter training program in Toronto. IST’s intensive training process equips immigrant and refugee women with the skill, certification, confidence and independence to become professional Language Interpreters and vital members of the community. Working closely with their non-profit counterpart, the Schlifer Clinic, which supports and defends women under threat of violence, has ensured the Training Program equips interpreters with an acute appreciation of cultural sensitivities. IST offers the most extensive interpreter training outside of the college system.
Toronto CREW has committed to supporting IST both financially and through volunteer initiatives.
Our Committee is excited to be leading a volunteer event at IST on Friday, November 2, 2018, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The event will be held at IST’s training centre, conveniently located at 489 College St. (College & Bathurst Sts.). Participants will be recent students of the IST training program and IST’s leadership team. The event will consist of two parts: a panel discussion involving Toronto CREW members, moderated by IST’s program leader and a time for one-on-one mentoring discussions with IST program participants.
Our Committee is looking for interested Toronto CREW members to volunteer for this event in the following capacities:
• One (1) volunteer to complete our 3-person Toronto CREW panel
• Five (5) volunteers to participate in mentoring discussions
Full event information will be provided to all volunteers in advance of our event date.
