2018 Toronto CREW Award Winners

March 14, 2019

EXCELLENCE IN LEADERSHIP AWARD: This award is presented to a Toronto CREW member who stands out for her leadership qualities, her achievements and her commitment to her career, industry and/or her community in general.

Our winner has been in a leadership role with Toronto CREW for some time now.  She came to be in that leadership role when she stepped up after a chair had to suddenly step down.  During her leadership, the Scholarship Committee has made significant changes to its approach and focus to further expand the reach of this committee externally and within the organization.  Our winner is also a partner at Bennett Jones.  It is our pleasure to present the 2018 Excellence in Leadership Award to Julia Schatz.

ENGAGEMENT/VOLUNTEER AWARD: This award is presented to a Toronto CREW member who has shown intense dedication to committees and Toronto CREW activities for at least 1 year and who, through such commitment to members, was able to promote the advancement of women in commercial real estate.

Our winner this year is officially on the Scholarship Committee but has been assisting several committees.  She has helped these committees move several processes used by our committees to an electronic platform, making the day-to-day operations of our organization function more efficiently.  She is also on the CREW Network Communication and Editorial Committee.  Our winner has gained many of the skills she brings to Toronto CREW through her position with Cadillac Fairview as the Senior Manager of Strategic Insights.  It is our pleasure to present the 2018 Engagement/Volunteer Award to Milena Nazaruk.

RISING STAR AWARD: This award is presented to a Toronto CREW member who has worked in the commercial real estate industry for less than 10 years and whose initiative in the industry stands out.

Our winner this year spent a considerable amount of her time over the last few years on our sponsorship committee.  And, led that committee through some record breaking campaigns.  She is currently a member of our Women’s Leadership Committee and is actively involved in that committee.  When she is not participating on a committee with Toronto CREW, she is the Senior Manager, Office Leasing at Oxford Properties.  I have personally worked with this winner and her leadership skills at such an early stage in her career are impressive.  I know we will continue to see great things from her.  It is our pleasure to present the 2018 Rising Star Award to Mya Rahimian

TRIBUTE AWARD: Our last award of the evening is our Tribute Award. This award is not based on nominations but is determined by the Board of Directors. The Tribute award is presented to a member of Toronto CREW whose contributions and commitment to Toronto CREW stand out above and beyond and exemplifies our Toronto CREW Mission – to empower women to excel, influence and lead throughout their commercial real estate careers.

Our winner this year has been on several committees, served on our committee leadership, was a prior Board member and is a Past President.  She took her commitment to CREW to the next level by becoming the first Canadian President of CREW Network.  She has inspired all of us to engage more than we thought we were capable.  Her speech upon becoming President of CREW Network showed her amazing strength as a leader and empowered every woman in the room to take that trait we all have that causes us to be afraid and use it to catapult each of us to success in our commercial real estate careers.

Please join me in congratulating Tara Piurko on an amazing year as our CREW Network President in 2018 and I am pleased to present her with the 2018 Tribute Award.
